The Warmth of the North

Kelo pine

Dead standing Arctic Pine, or as they call it KELO, grows beyond the Arctic Circle.

When pine reaches a certain age, the needles and branches fall off and the root system

stops receiving the necessary nutrition. Finally, the tree dries out but remains standing

and becomes a ‘dead standing’ pine (KELO).

Dead standing wood possesses a very low moisture content, saving the tree from insect

pests or fungus. Its appearance remains unchanged, and that's what accounts for its major

advantage.
